It’s official! While we at the Loan Fund have long known that Hollister Hill Farm B&B is a best-of-the-best agri-tourism experience, the Marshfield farm and inn has just been named Best of New England Farm B & B, by none other than Yankee Magazine.
Owners Bob and Lee Light came by Hollister Hill after relocating from their native New Jersey to pursue dairy farming. They fell in love with the 205-acre farm and antique farmhouse, which they set up as Hollister Hill B&B in 1997.
“Agri-tourism was in its infancy back then,” says Lee Light, “But, from the beginning, having the B&B came naturally to us. We enjoy people, we enjoy talking about our farm, small farm agriculture and eating local, renewable energy and sometimes politics if folks lead us in that direction,” she adds with a smile.
Hollister Hill is indeed a haven for food and farm aficionados, who can roll up their sleeves and help out with farm chores like tapping the maple trees, haying, seeding, feeding the baby chicks and piglets as well as the granddaddy of all piglets, 500 pound Studly. (Literally”¦Studly has sired countless generations of piglets at Hollister Hill.)
The Lights first came to the Loan Fund for financing back in 2005, and have worked with us several times since to help fund various expansions, improvements and more. “The support and encouragement of the Vermont Community Loan Fund made much of this possible,” said Lee, “We feel very connected to VCLF.”
The Lights and Hollister Hill have won much recognition and various accolades, including a 5-Star rating from Trip Advisor, but the recent Yankee Magazine Best of New England win was a huge thrill. “We told all our friends and family with great pride,” says Lee.
Hollister Hills features cozy rooms with fireplaces, several barns, a sugarhouse, gardens and a farm store that sells maple, ham, chicken, eggs and beefalo products, so you can take home a tasty souvenir of your experience. (Note: the memories will last, but not these goodies!)
